After the very difficult decision he made relevant to his bodyweight to be able to compete in the 69kg category Liao Hui decided last minute to cut his hair to reach the bodyweight required.Nonetheless it was definitely worth it as he never failed to raise the flag of China ones more and again did his salute following the Beijing Olympic Games.

New Asian lifter ZULFIYA CHINSALO astonished the World with her promising performance in the 53kg category women. She did not outstand in snatch event but she surprised the crowd when she lifted three attempts easily in the clean and jerk and grabbed the gold medal in C&J and Total. Zulfiya surprised the press as well during its conference when she started to answer the questions in Dunggan language which is a variety of Chinese used in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The new Kazakh champion was born in Goyang WWC!!!

Asian Youth and Junior Championships lifted to UAE from India 31.10.2009
 
The officials of Indian Weightlifting Federation recently declined their supposed hosting to the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships slated on 16- 24 December 2009 in Pune due to a restraining situation that the Federation is facing right now. While there is only less than two months left preparation time for the next probable host. Last week, the Emirates Weightlifting Federation requested AWF to host the said event with the proposal of holding the championship in FUJAIRAH Emirate. The Executive Board Members has already sent their approval to AWF Secretariat and President’s office. However, EWF will announce the exact date and program of the event should it will be the same as previously posted by Indian WL Federation or will be move few days more after the meeting of EWF and the Organizing Committee.

The AWF Technical Committee Chairman MR. HASSAN JALOUD carefully and elaborately explained to the congress the importance of the 20 and 15 KG rule which is oftenly neglected, he emphasized the strict implementation of the said rule from IWF.

The greatest pride of Philippine Weightlifting and Power Lifting Association is a 15 year old PATRICIA LLENA who recently gathered three gold medals last Monday 7th of September 2009 during the Sub- Junior World Powerlifting Championships held in Rebierao Preto, Brazil. The most promising powerlifter in her country soars her way to her first international competition in powerlifting in spite of their difficulties to obtain source of funds for the said event. Last minute Patricia and her father Leonard Llena who is also her personal trainer and coach made it through the World Championship

Patricia Llena lifted 175.5 kg on her last attempt in Deadlift event
14 years old Philippine Weightlifting Team member PATRICIA LLENA competed during the recent National Powerlifting in the Philippines where she was reigned as the strongest woman. Trishia hoisted triple her body weight in the Deadlift event of 175.5 kg., 155.5 kg. in squat and 77.5 kg. in bench press. And soon she will be representing Philippines on the World Powerlifting Championships in Brazil end quarter of this year. This promising girl was recently qualified to compete on 2011 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore after she showcased strength in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the World Youth championships. AWF President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren supported the stay of his father in Chiang Mai, Thailand during the World Youth Championships because Trish is gaining more strength and motivation in the presence of his personal coach and father Mr. Leonard Llena.

During the last AWF Congress Meeting in Taldykorgan- Kazakhstan, AWF President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren presented the certificate of donation to the four federations that has requested the Office of the President a support of weightlifting equipments to elevate and develop existing conditions of their federation into a more stable and successful organization. The shipment of the weightlifting barbells has been processed and will definitely arrive to its destination to the following countries; Pakistan, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia in few weeks time. President Sheikh Sultan lingers to his vision of supporting the less privileged federation in promoting weightlifting sport in their countries to keep Asia remains at crest.

Eligible photos must have been taken between August 1, 2008 and August 1, 2009 and there is no restriction on their topic as long as they are related to weightlifting (competition, training, portrait, etc.). By submitting a photo, you are guaranteeing that you are the photographer and have full rights to the photo, and you are giving the IWF the right to reproduce that photo on its website and in its magazine. The winning photo will be announced on the IWF website on September 15, 2009 and the prize is five days' hotel and meals at the 2009 World Weightlifting Championships (this may be either the first five days or the last five days; transportation to the contest is not included). Victory for Emirates Weightlfiting Federation

The two months old Emirates weightlifter ISMAIL ABDULLA ISMAIL lavished the crowd with excitement and enthusiasm as he lifted 72kg in Snatch and 83kg in Clean & Jerk over the lifters from Qatar who placed 4th and 5th respectively. ISMAIL claimed the bronze medal under 77kg category in Junior Division. With so much gladness the Emirates Weightlifting Federation and its President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren congratulates the 20 years old young lifter of UAE and hopefully he will be seen in the future International platform aside from GCC.

Emirates Weightlifting Team for GCC Championship
 
The Emirates Weightlifting Federation revealed its National Team members who will be competing during the forthcoming 9th Senior and 8th Junior GCC weightlifting Championships slated on 1st – 6th of July 2009 at the Tennis Court of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. The event is only legible for the GCC countries, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Oman. While the competition is composed of all male athletes. National Head Coach Abdullah Abdullatief expressed that his team underwent vigorous training in preparation to the above said competition with high hopes to gather gold medals. All the members will be competing on the Senior Division. Three lifters from their line up had recently competed during last month Asian Senior Weightlifting Championship in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan.

2009 GCC Weightlifting Championship
 
The Emirates Weightlifting Federation (EWF) is the proud host of this year 2009 GCC Weightlifting Championship slated on 1st- 5th of July to be held in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. AWF and EWF President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee expressed that the preparation is going well ensuring that the competition would be remarkably succesful through modern innovation.

CHEN WEI- LING
 
Taiwanese lifter CHEN WEI-LING took the first gold medal during the first day of competition in Kazakhstan. The 26 years old Chen proved her best after achieving the 200kg in total from 87kg snatch and 113kg clean & jerk. Chen happily posed in her three gold medals with so much gratitude for her Coach and team mates.

ASIAN SENIOR CHAMP SUCCESS
 
The close cooperation of AWF and the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation was behin the success of the Asian Senior Championships in spite of the minimal technical problems the competition went very well with the great support and hard work of the AWF Officials.

ASIAN REPRESENTATIVES IN IWF
 
AWF 1st Vice President MR. WENGUANG MA (China)is the Secretary General while Vice President MR. CHANG CHAO KUO (Taipei) is the First Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation. Both Leaders in Asian Weightlifting proved their close camaraderie and hardwork for the weightlifting sport world wide being positioned by the national federations. The AWF famiily was really proud of the achievements that Mr. Ma and Mr. Chang obtained to help and support the inactive national federations in Asia uplift the sport. AWF President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren presented them the AWF Golden Certificate during the Opening Ceremony of the Asian Senior Championships in Kazakhstan in recognition and appreciation to their success.

THE CONGRESS
 
Asian Weightlifting Federation Congress was held last May 10, 2009 with 24 participating countries attended the Congress. It was Presided by AWF President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren and General Secretary Mr. Ali Moradi together witht the Executive Board Memebers Mr. Wenguang Ma, Mr. Chang Chao Kuo, Mr. Jamal Salama, Mr. Mohammed Hassan Jaloud, Mr. Ahmed Mohyuddin and Mr. Mahkmudov Shakrullo. The Congress tackled the preparations for the Asian Senior Chmapionships and so with the upcoming Asian competitions like the Asian Youth and Junior Championships in Pune, India which was postponed due to the request of Government in India to provide full safety and secutrity to the participants during the event and the next Asian Interclub Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

YOUTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
First Youth World Weightlifting Championships will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the main Qualification Event for 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Union of Arab National Olympic Committees
 
Asian Weightlifting Federation President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren attended the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees Electoral Congress held last 23rd April 2009 at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia whein he was elected as Member of the Executive Board.

ASIAN SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
The Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation is currently busy preparing for the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships in the City of Taldykorgan. This event will be the first gathering of Senior athletes in Asia after the magnificent Beijing Olympic Games, while we are expecting to see breathtaking rivals and star athletes competing during this event. The Organizing Committee chaired by its President Mr. Khairat Turlykhanov and Mr. Alexi Ni is working on the preparation to achieve maximum standard of international organization. While everybody expect to see the twice reigned as IWF athlete of the year the promising ILIN ILYA who had given his country the first Olympic gold medal in the history of Kazakhstan.

The highest number of participating countries int eh history of IWF Election wherein 132 countries were present during the Congress while only 128 validated its voting rights. Incumbent President DR. TAMAS AJAN remained in the seat wherein he started to lead the Federation since year 2000. Whilst first time in the history of IWF to have an Asian Secretary General in the person of MR. WENGUANG MA.

The International Weightlifting Federation had finally concluded its new Executive Board Member after the excitement durig its Electoral Congress held in Melia Castilla Hotel in Madrid, Spain last 1st April 2009.

Asian Weightlifting Federation President Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren and Oceania Weightlifitng Federation President H. E. Marcus Stephenwho is the present President in the state/ country of Nauru had finally met in person during the IWF Congress today. Sheikh Sultan presented the limited edition of AWF Golden Anniversary Plaque to the head State of Nauru which symbolizes the new camaraderie of both continental federations building closer relation to tie its common vision of keeping the sport weightlifting as the sport for all and uplift its development through support and unity between the two continental leaders of international weightlifting sport. H.E. Marcus was a former world champion weightlifter who served the sport for a long time in different field i.e. coaching and management. He is also the present President of their National Olympic Committee.

The New President of African Weightlifting Federation
 
At last the African Weightlifting Federation’s Elections were held and and finally Mr. Khalid Mehalhel Mohemed from Libya was chosen as the new President of the mentioned Federation. After being appeared some difficulties in the previous African Weightlifting Federation’s Election which was led not to be ended that time, this time by the inelegancy and good management of Dr. Tamas Ajan the IWF President, the elections of the President, General Secretary, the Executive Board Members and other Committees’ Members were held in a quite calm and safe atmosphere that at the end Mr. Khalid Mehalhel Mohemed from Libya substitute the prior President Gamil Hanna from Egypt. Hanna owned this position for more than 22 years. At the same time Mr. M.Eshelly Manareddin was elected as the General Secretariat. These elections were held in Tunis on 5 February. Due to the high contrivance of the IWF President which have had a prominent part in setting up these elections regularly and saved the African countries from messy state , now it’s expected this policy would be applied in the IWF elections which will be held in near future that surely by the high tact of DR. TAmas Ajan such affair will be reality in order that new IWF Officials would be elected in a safe , clean and democratic atmosphere . Asian Weightlifting Federation in its own part, congratulates the elections of President, General Secretary, and other Officials of the African Federation to them one by one, and wishes progressive success for the new authorities of this sport in the vast Africa Continent.

Paul Chua Visit In Dubai
 
The Secretary General of Asian Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (ABBF) and Executive Assistant to the President of the International Federation of Bodybuilding, MR. PAUL CHUA made a surprise cordial visit in the office of His Excellency SHEIKH SULTAN BIN MEJREN, President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation today 28th January 2009 together with EBBF Secretary General MR. HUSSAIN AL SAFFAR. On this very momentous and pleasant occasion, Sheikh Sultan was very delighted and presented the Asian Weightlifting Federation Golden Anniversary plaque to Mr. Paul Chua for his great works in Bodybuilding not only around Asia but worldwide. He has been supporting Emirates Bodybuilding Federation in many of its events including hosting of regional and international competitions. With so much confidence the Emirates Bodybuilding Federation expect the same support from Mr. Paul Chua most specially during their upcoming hosting of the World Bodybuilding Championships in Dubai this November 2009 following the leadership of IFBB President MR. Rafael Santoja. Taking few words from Mr. Chua, he revealed his gratitude to Sheikh Sultan which according to him a great man of honor and a genuine friend in Bodybuilding and Weightlifting sports. With great pleasure he received the plaque that once again represents the strong relationship that bond Asian Weightlifting Federation and Asian Bodybuilding Federation. He also made mention that His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mejren is a force that contributed vast of excellent deeds in both sports and portrayed him as “a rock that cannot be washed away by a strong flow of water”.

2008 Weightlifting Bejing Olympic Games
 
Congratulations to all who participated the Beijing Olympic Games, from the athletes and coaches who had a long preparation to reach one goal and one dream of winning gold medal, for the officials who justly bestowed their job to maintain fairness, camaraderie of Olympism during the Game and to all the members of Organizing Committee, staff, spectators and weightlifting enthusiasts for taking a huge part during the legendary game of a lifetime. In behalf of the Asian Weightlifting Federation we highly commend and congratulate the entire Chinese Weightlifting Association under Mr. Ma leadership being the ultimate powerhouse of best weightlifters in the world, gathered a total of eight gold medals out of fifteen body weight competitions. Meanwhile, we salute all the winners for a job well done! You are all heroes. The pride of your family, federation and specially your country. All sweats, sacrifices and hardship paid off. Again, CONGRATULATIONS to everyone and good luck in the upcoming events.

IWF EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING in BUDAPEST
 
The International Weightlifting Federation has concluded its Executive Board meeting last 19th February 2009 at Budapest Headquarters. IWF President DR. TAMAS AJAN and State Secretary of Sport DR. OTTO TOROK welcome everyone and brace them with their hospitality. Two main issue was given priority that was tackled which would greatly help weightlifting sport, first is replacing the Olympic Standard to Olympic Sport which will be base on the best Olympic result of the recent Beijing Olympic Games. Second is to establish the Olympic Youth records base on the existing continental youth records in preparation to the upcoming 1st World Youth Championships that will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on May 19- 24, 2009. While we are extending our warmest congratulation to the Laos Weightlifitng Association being a new affiliated member of the IWF and AWF welcomes Laos in the family. Likewise, congratulations to Gambia and Mauritania. IWF updated its affiliated members to 187 countries.

The Emirates Weightlifting Federation (EWF)
 
The Emirates Weightlifting Federation (EWF) team headed by its President SHEIKH SULTAN BIN MEJREN had a courtesy call at the United Arab Emirates Embassy of Korea to meet its Ambassador ABDULLA MOHAMMED AL- MAAINA in honour to their participation to the Asian Junior & Senior Interclub Weightlifting Championships held in Goyang City, Korea from 30th October to 6th November 2008. With the support and recognition of Ambassador Al- Maaina, AWF and EWF President Sheikh Sultan presented him the 50th Golden Anniversary Plaque.

The Asian Interclub Championships
 
The Asian Interclub Championships held in Goyang City, Korea opens today 31st October 2008 in KINTEX at 6:00 in the evening. The organizing committee successfully delivered a fabulous opening ceremony participated by over 20 different countries in Asia. The hosting City of Goyang was fully supported by its government leaders who were also present today at the opening specially its Mayor Kang Hyun- Suk. Showered by confettis and fireworks amazed everyone which uplift the standard of competition for Interclub Championships. While they also celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Asian Weightlifting Federation in honour to the previous leaders of the federation and the strong relationship of the present AWF family. At 2:00 p.m. AWF held the technical meeting for all the participants presided by its President SHEIKH SULTAN BIN MEJREN and General Secretary MR. ALI MORADI which confirmed the official delegates of athletes and officials at the Goyang Flower Exhibition Center where the competition is being set which will start tomorrow 1st November 2008.
